My Story
My flute background is “nontraditional”. Or maybe it’s just like you. I played through high school, when my flute teacher started to introduce me to extended techniques — like multiphonics. I thought playing multiple notes at once was incredible, and was eager to learn more.
But I felt a disconnect between playing music I loved, and advancing my skills. I love pop and rock music — music you can dance or sing to. Pop music is perfect for multiphonics, featuring multilayered harmony in most songs. But extended techniques were mostly in obscure pieces, that didn’t resonate with me emotionally. I even tried playing pop duet books as a solo but:
the melodies felt dumbed down
the harmony combos never worked - I could never find the fingerings!
So I left the flute for a decade+.
Now I’ve returned — arranging popular songs that inspire.
And now you can play them too!
